67. Projections

Spiritual development begins with energetic awareness: the profound recognition that everything is interconnected. To witness this interconnectedness in action is a startling and humbling experience. One of the clearest expressions of this truth is projection. When we learn to understand projection, we are immediately invited to step out of blame and judgment and into greater self-awareness.

Psychology teaches that when we are strongly unsettled by certain traits in others, we may actually be encountering unrecognised, unconscious, unresolved, or rejected aspects of ourselves. In this sense, other people can become mirrors, reflecting within what we have not yet seen This is often described as the Universal Mirror.

This can be a difficult idea to accept. In fact, it may feel deeply uncomfortable or even offensive at first. Yet its purpose is not condemnation. It is illumination. The deeper truth is that consciousness expands through partnership, reflection, and awareness, reminding us that we are not separate from the world around us, but profoundly woven into the same greater whole.

Projection often arises because people wish to avoid acknowledging feelings, impulses, or qualities within themselves that they find unacceptable. Rather than face that inner conflict directly, they unconsciously attribute their discomfort to another person. This allows the individual to confront a difficult trait without admitting it exists within. preserving denial while moving the burden outward.

Seen more spiritually, this becomes the Universe’s way of bringing hidden darkness into the light. What is denied must eventually be revealed so that healing can begin. In both personal life and collective life, this process calls us toward greater moral clarity, stronger ethical responsibility, and deeper protection for those who are vulnerable. It also challenges us to examine equality, integrity, and accountability within ourselves and within the leaders and systems that shape our world.

Projection does not only reveal what we have denied. It can also show us where we are being called forward. At times, the qualities we admire or repeatedly encounter in others are indicators of what we can become. Through role modelling and repetition in the outer world, the Universe may be showing us a path of actualisation. You may find yourself surrounded by people in a particular profession or field during a certain season of life, not by accident, but as a sign that this path may also be available to you. The message is clear: what you see in others may already be awakening within you.

Power prompt: Take notice in what someone always complains about is what they themselves unconsciously do. Release judgement as we can all do it.
